Another faction of petro pump owners, workers place 12-point demand

Shawdesh Desk:

Now, another faction of Bangladesh Petrol Pump and Tank-Lorry Workers-Owners’ Unity Council on Tuesday placed a 12-point demand, urging the government to settle those by December 15.

At a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city, leaders of the faction also demanded punishment of the leaders of their rival faction who recently observed a strike in Rajshahi, Khulna and Rangpur divisions.

Convener of the council Mohammad Nazmul Haque spoke on the occasion while other leaders of the organisation were present.

Nine of the demands are identical with those of the rival faction while three other demands include no re-fixing of the tolerable level, and cancelation of the BSTI calibration system of underground oil reservoir and amendments to some of the newly introduced Road Transportation Act 2018.

The leaders termed their rival faction as an expelled one and alleged that they called the strike to put the government in an embarrassing situation when there is a crisis going on in the country over the prices of onion, rice and other essential items.

Nazmul Haque said the strike was called at a moment when they have been negotiating with the government to realise their demands.

A faction of the petrol pump owners and workers postponed their strike on Monday until December 15 after a meeting with Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).

The associations on November 26 gave until November 30 to fulfill their 15 demands that include payment of 7.5 percent sales commission, introduction of accident insurance of Tk 5 lakh for tank lorry workers and an end to police harassment.
